Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our restoration process, what we can fix, and what to expect.

What types of damage can you fix?

Our restoration services can address many common types of card damage:

✅ What We CAN Fix:
  • Surface scratches - Light to moderate scratching on the card face
  • Dirt and grime - Years of accumulated residue and fingerprints
  • Minor dents - Small indentations that haven't broken the surface
  • Light creases - Visible fold lines that can be smoothed
  • Edge cleaning - Dirt and residue on edges (NOT whitening/exposed cardboard)
  • Edge lift - Raised or peeling edges can be pressed and smoothed (Premium service)
❌ What We CANNOT Fix:
  • Edge whitening - Exposed cardboard layer on edges cannot be re-coated or colored
  • Poor centering - Factory printing alignment cannot be changed
  • Color loss or fading - Missing ink cannot be replaced without repainting
  • Deep creases - Severe folds that have broken through layers
  • Tears or rips - Physical separation of card material
  • Water damage staining - Permanent discoloration from moisture
  • Exposed cardboard - Complete loss of coating anywhere on the card
  • Print defects - Factory errors in the printing process

Before starting any work, we'll send you a detailed microscope analysis showing exactly what can and cannot be improved on your specific cards.

What's the difference between Standard (Clean & Polish) and Premium (Full Restoration)?

  • Starting at $19.95 based on card value

Premium Service (Full Restoration):

  • Dent and ding removal using pressure techniques
  • Crease smoothing and reduction
  • Edge lift repair - pressing and smoothing raised edges
  • More intensive surface restoration
  • Best for cards with moderate to heavy wear
  • Starting at $39.95 based on card value
💡 Not sure which service you need? Submit your cards and we'll send you a detailed report with our recommendations based on the actual condition.
Do you open graded slabs (PSA, BGS, CGC)?

Yes, we offer slab opening services for $8.00 per card.

We can safely crack open slabs from all major grading companies including PSA, BGS, CGC, and others. The card will be carefully removed and placed in protective sleeves for restoration work.

⚠️ Important Considerations:
  • Opening a slab destroys the original grade certification
  • We cannot guarantee the card will achieve the same or higher grade after restoration and re-grading
  • This is typically only recommended for cards where the restoration value outweighs the current graded value
  • Best for lower-grade cards (PSA 4-7) where restoration could significantly improve grade potential

We're happy to discuss whether opening your specific slab makes financial sense based on current market values.

Can you fix edge whitening?
⚠️ No, edge whitening cannot be fixed through restoration.

Why edge whitening is permanent:

  • Edge whitening is exposed cardboard - the protective coating has worn away completely
  • The white color you see is the actual cardboard core of the card
  • Fixing this would require re-coating or painting, which is considered card alteration
  • Grading companies will reject cards with painted or re-coated edges

What we CAN do for edges:

  • Clean dirt, oils, and residue from edges
  • Smooth very minor edge roughness
  • Remove some surface-level discoloration (if it's dirt, not exposed cardboard)
💡 How to tell the difference:
• If it's white and rough/fibrous → Exposed cardboard (cannot fix)
• If it's dirty but the coating is intact → We can clean it
• Send us photos and we'll tell you honestly what's possible

Cards with significant edge whitening: These are often not ideal candidates for restoration. The edge whitening will remain the limiting factor on grade potential regardless of other improvements we make.

How long does the restoration process take?

Timeline varies by service level:

✅ Standard Service (Clean & Polish):
Total Timeframe: 2-3 weeks from submission to return
💎 Premium Service (Full Restoration):
Total Timeframe: 4-8 weeks (up to 60 days) from submission to return

Standard Service Timeline (2-3 weeks):

  • Step 1: Submission (Day 0) - You place your order online and ship your cards
  • Step 2: Arrival (Day 2-5) - Cards arrive at our facility
  • Step 3: Analysis (Day 6-7) - Microscope inspection and detailed report sent to you
  • Step 4: Restoration (Day 8-12) - Cleaning, polishing, light scratch removal
  • Step 5: Return Shipping (Day 13-17) - Cards shipped back to you with tracking

Premium Service Timeline (4-8 weeks):

  • Step 1: Submission (Day 0) - You place your order online and ship your cards
  • Step 2: Arrival (Day 2-5) - Cards arrive at our facility
  • Step 3: Analysis (Day 6-8) - Detailed microscope inspection and comprehensive report
  • Step 4: Restoration (Day 9-50) - Multi-stage process including:
    • Deep cleaning and preparation
    • Dent and crease removal (requires multiple sessions)
    • Edge lift repair and pressing
    • Fine surface restoration
    • Quality inspection and touch-ups
  • Step 5: Final Review (Day 51-55) - Before/after documentation and final inspection
  • Step 6: Return Shipping (Day 56-60) - Secure packaging and insured return
⚠️ Why Premium Takes Longer:
  • Dent and crease removal requires multiple treatment sessions with rest periods between
  • Edge lift repair needs careful pressing and time to settle
  • More intensive techniques require careful monitoring between stages
  • Higher-value cards receive extra quality control steps

Factors that may affect timeline for both services:

  • Order volume during busy seasons (holidays, major releases)
  • Individual card complexity and severity of damage
  • Whether you opt for grading submission (adds 4-8 weeks to total timeline)
  • Shipping carrier delays

You'll receive updates at each stage through our customer portal and email notifications.

Do you guarantee specific grade improvements?
⚠️ Important: We do NOT guarantee specific PSA/BGS/CGC grades.

Here's why we can't make grade guarantees:

  • Grading is subjective - Different graders at PSA/BGS/CGC may assess the same card differently
  • Hidden defects - Some issues only become apparent under specific lighting or angles that graders use
  • Factory defects - Print lines, centering, and other original flaws cannot be fixed
  • Individual card variation - Each card responds differently to restoration techniques
  • Grading standards change - Companies occasionally adjust their criteria

What we DO guarantee:

  • We will improve the physical condition of your card where possible
  • You'll receive honest before/after documentation
  • We'll never make your card worse
  • If we can't improve a card at all, we'll refund the service fee (shipping fees excluded)
✅ Realistic Expectations: Most cards see 0-2 grade improvements after restoration. Cards with severe damage (PSA 3 or below) may see little to no improvement because many defects are permanent.
How much can restoration improve my card's grade?

Realistic expectations based on starting condition:

PSA 4-5 Cards (Heavy Wear):

  • Typical improvement: 0-1 grade
  • Best case: 1-2 grades if wear is primarily surface-level
  • Challenges: Often have multiple permanent defects (creases, corner damage, centering)

PSA 6-7 Cards (Moderate Wear):

  • Typical improvement: 1-2 grades
  • Best case: Could reach PSA 8-9 with ideal conditions
  • Sweet spot: Most cost-effective for restoration

PSA 8 Cards (Near Mint):

  • Typical improvement: 0-1 grade
  • Best case: PSA 9 if the only issues are minor surface scratches
  • Challenges: At this level, centering and print quality become critical

PSA 9 Cards (Mint):

  • Typical improvement: Unlikely
  • Risk vs. reward: Generally not recommended unless there are very specific, fixable issues
💡 Key Insight: Cards in the PSA 6-7 range typically offer the best ROI for restoration because they often have cosmetic issues that can be addressed without permanent structural damage.
⚠️ Every Card is Different: These are general guidelines. Your specific results will depend on the unique condition of each card. We'll provide honest assessments in our analysis report.
What if restoration doesn't improve my card?

Our "No Worse Guarantee":

We guarantee that restoration will not damage your cards or make them worse than their starting condition. If we determine during our analysis that a card cannot be improved, we have two options:

  • Option 1: We'll contact you before starting work and you can choose to cancel that specific card's service (service fee refunded, you still pay return shipping)
  • Option 2: We proceed with basic cleaning only (no aggressive techniques)

If we complete restoration and see no improvement:

  • This is rare but can happen with cards that have mostly permanent defects
  • You'll receive full documentation showing our attempts
  • We'll refund 50% of the service fee as a courtesy
  • The card will be returned to you safely
✅ Transparency First: Our detailed analysis report (sent before restoration work begins) is designed to manage expectations and help you decide if restoration is worth pursuing for each card.

We're honest when cards aren't good candidates: If your card has severe permanent damage, we'll tell you up front rather than take your money for work that won't help.

Can grading companies detect restoration?

Yes, professional grading companies have sophisticated detection methods.

⚠️ Critical Information: Our restoration services use legitimate techniques to improve card condition. However, PSA, BGS, and CGC have policies regarding restored cards.

What grading companies look for:

  • Signs of re-coloring or touch-up paint
  • Evidence of coating reapplication
  • Unnatural surface uniformity
  • Chemical residue from cleaning agents
  • Alterations to card structure

Our approach:

  • We use only non-additive techniques - we remove damage rather than add anything to the card
  • No painting, re-coating, or chemical alteration of the card surface
  • Professional cleaning, polishing, and pressure techniques only
  • Methods that improve the card without making it "not authentic"

Grading policy notes:

  • Light cleaning and basic restoration is generally acceptable
  • Aggressive alterations (trimming, recoloring) will result in rejection
  • Each grading company has slightly different policies
  • We stay current on grading standards and adjust our methods accordingly
💡 Bottom Line: We use restoration methods that improve condition without crossing into "alteration" territory. However, we cannot control grading company decisions and do not guarantee cards will be accepted for grading.
How is pricing calculated?

Our pricing is based on your card's declared value, not flat-rate per card.

Standard Service (Clean & Polish):

  • $0-$50 value: $19.95 per card
  • $51-$200 value: $29.95 per card
  • $201-$500 value: $49.95 per card
  • $501+ value: $79.95 per card

Premium Service (Full Restoration):

  • $0-$50 value: $39.95 per card
  • $51-$200 value: $59.95 per card
  • $201-$500 value: $99.95 per card
  • $501+ value: $149.95 per card

Additional Services:

  • Slab opening: $8.00 per card
  • Grading submission: $20.00 per card (plus grading company fees)
  • Return shipping: $11.95 base + $2.00 per additional card
  • Insurance: Calculated based on total declared value (UPS rates)
💡 Why value-based pricing? Higher-value cards require more careful handling, additional insurance, more detailed documentation, and carry higher liability. This pricing structure ensures appropriate care for your investment.

Example calculation for 5 cards (all valued at $100 each):

  • 5 cards × $29.95 (Standard service) = $149.75
  • Base shipping = $11.95
  • Extra card packaging (4 cards × $2.00) = $8.00
  • Insurance (total value $500) = $3.45
  • Total: $173.15

How should I ship my cards to you?

Recommended packaging:

  2. Insert sleeved card into a toploader
  3. Tape the toploader shut (we recommend painter's tape)
  4. Wrap toploaders in bubble wrap
  5. Place in a sturdy cardboard box (not a bubble mailer)
  6. Fill empty space with packing material

Shipping requirements:

  • Always use tracked shipping (USPS Priority, UPS, FedEx)
  • Purchase insurance for the full declared value
  • Upload tracking number to your customer portal
  • Ship within 5 business days of placing your order
⚠️ Important: We are not responsible for cards lost or damaged in shipping to us. Always use tracked, insured shipping and keep your receipt until cards are confirmed received at our facility.

Shipping address: You'll receive our facility address and your unique order reference number after checkout.

How does insurance work?

We include full insurance for return shipping automatically.

Insurance calculation (UPS rates):

  • $0-$100 total value: No additional charge (included in base shipping)
  • $101-$300 total value: $3.45
  • $301+ total value: $3.45 + $1.15 per additional $100

Example: If your total declared value is $500:

  • Base insurance (up to $300): $3.45
  • Additional $200 coverage: $1.15 × 2 = $2.30
  • Total insurance: $5.75
✅ You're Protected: From the moment we receive your cards until they're back in your hands, they're fully insured for their declared value.

Your responsibility:

  • Insure your shipment TO us (we cannot control this)
  • Declare accurate card values (underdeclaring affects insurance coverage)
  • Keep shipping receipts until cards are confirmed received
What types of cards do you restore?

We specialize in Pokémon cards, but our techniques work on most trading cards including:

  • Pokémon TCG (all eras - Base Set to modern)
  • Magic: The Gathering
  • Yu-Gi-Oh!
  • Sports cards (baseball, basketball, football, etc.)
  • Other collectible trading card games
💡 Note: While we can work on most cards, our expertise and market knowledge is deepest with Pokémon. For high-value non-Pokémon cards, we recommend contacting us first to discuss your specific needs.
Do you offer consultations or free assessments?

Yes! Our detailed analysis report is included with every order.

When you submit cards, you'll receive:

  • High-resolution microscope photos of each card
  • Detailed assessment of all defects
  • Honest evaluation of what can and cannot be fixed
  • Restoration recommendations
  • Grade improvement estimates (realistic ranges)

This analysis is completed BEFORE we start restoration work, giving you the opportunity to:

  • Make informed decisions about proceeding

  • Understand exactly what to expect from the process
✅ No Hidden Surprises: We believe in complete transparency. You'll know exactly what we can and can't do before we touch your cards.

For pre-submission questions: Email us photos of your cards to [email protected] and we'll provide preliminary feedback at no charge.
